Messezentrum Salzburg takes over The European Taxidermy Championships (ETC)

Salzburg, October 01, 2025 – Messezentrum Salzburg is proud to announce the acquisition of the European Taxidermy Championships (ETC) brand. This renowned event has traditionally been held every two years at Messezentrum Salzburg as an independent format within the framework of Hohe Jagd & Fischerei. With this acquisition, Messezentrum Salzburg now assumes full responsibility for the organization, strategic development, and long-term positioning of this prestigious championship.

“I am delighted that Messezentrum Salzburg is taking over the European Taxidermy Championships. This transition will strengthen the ETC’s future prospects and provide the necessary resources for sustainable growth. Participants and visitors can expect continuity — the championship will continue in its familiar format in 2027. At the same time, this new structure opens up exciting opportunities. I remain deeply passionate about the art of taxidermy and equally committed to the community that surrounds it. Therefore, I’m very pleased that Messezentrum Salzburg has invited me to remain involved as an advisor in the coming years. I look forward to exploring the new possibilities this acquisition will bring to the ETC,” said Carsten Skakkebæk, former co-owner and director of the ETC.

The next regular ETC competition is scheduled for 2027, within the established framework of Hohe Jagd & Fischerei. To further elevate the event’s visibility, Messezentrum Salzburg plans a special exhibition and workshops in 2026 — offering visitors a unique insight into the art of taxidermy. “We are excited to give the ETC a stage even before the next competition and to make this extraordinary craft experienceable for visitors,” emphasized Lena Braito, new project manager of the ETC.

The European Taxidermy Championships (ETC)

The ETC is recognized as one of Europe’s premier platforms for taxidermy art. Participants from across Europe and beyond demonstrate their skills across various categories — from realistic wildlife recreations to artistic interpretations. Judging is based on international standards, focusing equally on craftsmanship, anatomic accuracy, and creative expression. With Messezentrum Salzburg taking over, the ETC brand will be strengthened and strategically developed within the framework of Hohe Jagd & Fischerei, while maintaining its international orientation.

Hohe Jagd & Fischerei — Tradition and Innovation

For decades, Hohe Jagd & Fischerei has been the leading trade fair for hunting, fishing, nature, and outdoor pursuits in the Alpine-Danube-Adriatic region. Annually attracting thousands of visitors and exhibitors, it celebrates a perfect blend of tradition and innovation. From cutting-edge hunting technology and modern gear to outdoor adventures and culinary delights — the fair showcases the full spectrum of outdoor life, emphasizing sustainable use of natural resources.

A Synergistic Partnership

“The takeover of the ETC under our responsibility is a logical and consistent step: it represents the entire cycle of hunting that is strongly connected to taxidermy – from respectful harvesting to utilization and preserving the beauty of wildlife through the art of taxidermy. The existing connection with Hohe Jagd & Fischerei ensures continuity, allowing us to combine stability, innovation, and passion in a cohesive approach,” stated Christian Wenninger, Head of B2C Trade Fairs at Messezentrum Salzburg.
